Kristen Lee has been one of our favorite shoe designers for a few years now. Lucky for us, she has teamed up with her partner Brady Cunningham to create a small collection of ready-to-wear womenswear just for her L.A. boutique TenOverSix, along with accessories. Here, the pair give us the scoop on their latest creations...
What's the common denominator in all your designs?
KL: Easy classics. I like to take my favorite classic accessory designs (American, French, Italian generally) and make them less serious through color, fabrication, or styling.
BC: The common denominator in all of my designs is creating pieces that are simultaneously forward and stylish, and above all, comfortable. I love things that are easy to throw on, but that also make me feel smartly dressed.
Tell us about your favorite piece from the spring/summer collection.
KL: It's one of my simple shapes, a classic round toe pump with a cuban heel, but fully embellished. The fabrics we used in the shoes, handbags, scarves, and clothes are so beautiful.
BC: My favorite piece from the TenOverSix ready-to-wear spring/summer collection is an updated wrap skirt. I took my favorite parts of the classic wrap skirt and modernized it. It's like wearing a flower.
Can you give us a peek at what you're planning for the fall 2009 collection?
KL: Yes! We are so excited for fall. We are launching a private label of coats, handbags, and shoes for TenOverSix, all accessories will be Kristen Lee for TenOverSix. They are very wearable, but memorable and with a wink.
BC: Fall 09 is all about unexpected combinations.
When it comes to your personal style, what's the one piece you'll never be without?
KL: In sunny LA... my prescription tortoise vintage shades! And cute shoes.
BC: I'll never be without a distinctive jacket, whether it's for staying warm in a restaurant or as a quick-fix for what would otherwise be a boring outfit, it's my secret weapon.
